J Crew's Disappointment

November 23, 2021 The Peak Lapel

You’ve probably seen the boiled merino blackwatch plaid blazer/sweater from J Crew making the rounds. Well, I am here to tell you with a heavy heart to skip it. It sure looks like an absolute dynamite piece. Alas, it is not.

The pattern/colors are quite muted, and almost faded looking, to start. Worse, the fit is quite odd. It’s strongly long (and this is coming from someone over 6 feet tall), quite baggy in the midsection and sleeves, and does not really confer any of the nice “shaping” the the body that a blazer is supposed to. I know it’s just a sweater, but still. The fit is wonky.

Perhaps worst of all, though, is that it’s floppy. Yes, floppy. The lapels do not sit nicely, and look like the want to curl away from how they naturally should be sitting. Wearing this just makes you look a bit sloppy, honestly.

Looks like a great piece. In reality, a disappointment. Skip it, as painful as it is.
